Spelling Bee
Escuela Bilingue Pioneer participates in both an English Spelling Bee and a Concurso de deletreo en español. All students in grades 2nd-5th participate in the process for both.
Each Spelling Bee will have four rounds, beginning with a written test of 25 words for each class during their library time, with the top five (or so) from each class advancing to a grade level stand-up oral competition in library; from there the top 2 or 3 from each grade 2nd-5th, will advance to a Pioneer championship, with winner of that advancing to the disctrict/regional finals (of which the winner goes to Washington DC in the spring for the nationally televised competition).
The English Bee will start with materials being distributed in October, followed by the first written test in November/December, then grade level finals in January, and the Pioneer Championship in early February, with one student advancing to the Boulder Regional Bee in February. (The National Spelling Bee will be held in May in Washington D.C. and televised on ESPN.)
