The Arts & Cultural Resources Department and Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission is pleased to announce our annual Lafayette Youth Poetry Prize contest. This is a an English and Spanish language contest. Students k – 8th are eligible to submit poems in English or Spanish. Cash prizes are awarded.

- Poets must live or attend school in Lafayette, Colorado.
- Entries must be received by Friday, April 7, 2017, at 12:00 noon.
- Entries are limited to two poems per poet. An entry form must be attached to each poem submitted.
- Please be sure to follow the directions on the application form to insure that judging is blind.
- Visit www.cityoflafayette.com/LYPP for complete guidelines and the application form.
- If you are a teacher submitting work on behalf of students, please pre-screen poems and submit no more than five entries per age group for each language; from each teacher in a batch submission..
- All are invited to hear the finalists read, and see the awards on Saturday, April 29; 2pm at the Collective – Community Arts Center.

- Other writing opportunities:
- Throughout the Lafayette Open Space Outdoor Classroom behind Pioneer there are a variety of “Information Display Kiosks” along the trail featuring plants and animals of the area, including one on the American Kestrel by former Pioneer student Aliyah Bustamante and current Pioneer 4th grader Olin Harrison-Anguiano. The city is looking for more pieces about animals or plants that live there. If you are interested in doing one please talk to David Smith.
- David is looking for someone to do a short report about the types of fish we have living in our aquarium. If you are interested in doing this, please talk to David Smith.
